January 2010 - The survey aimed at assessing the needs of NITAGs in regard to material, training, and tools was completed. It was carried out in collaboration with WHO regional offices. Participants included representatives of countries that have NITAGs in place and countries that are looking to establish such committees.

Desk reviews were also finalized on a range of topics including burden of disease, health economics and financing, logistics and programming, and vaccinology.
The results of the needs assessment survey and the desk reviews were discussed at the SIVAC workshop for the future NITAG Technical Resource and Training Center (TechTrain), held in Paris from January 21-22. The conference brought together 35 representatives from existing NITAGs, countries seeking to establish NITAGs, WHO headquarters and regional offices, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), PATH, the West African Health Organisation, IVI, and AMP.

During the working group sessions, participants identified the particular needs of the NITAG scientific and technical secretariat as well as committee members. They also determined the specifications for the future TechTrain website. The site’s aim is to provide relevant information, tools, and knowledge to members of NITAGs and the global immunization community to enhance the use of evidence-based decision making for immunization and vaccines.

January 2010 - SIVAC presented an update of activities at the GAVI West and Central African Sub-Regional Working Group Meeting, held in Dakar (Senegal), January 25-26.
