Overview
The Technical Resource and Training Centre aims at being an electronic platform to be widely used by the immunization community and ITAG members. The Centre will contain a comprehensive collection of material and services that will support ITAGs to establish evidence-based recommendations. Material will come from secondary sources or will be specifically developed by SIVAC. Most of the services provided through the Technical Resource and Training Centre will be web-based with the addition of CD-ROMS developed and disseminated for users with limited access to the Internet.
The first step for this Major Activity is to conduct a situation analysis, in order to design a Technical Resource and Training Centre that fits with country needs. Also, a comprehensive review of best practises among existing ITAG will be conducted.
Specific products will include:
• Training programs. Courses will depend upon the expected targets, designed for multimedia interactive training, and developed by technical experts.
• Needs-based evidence-based decision-making tools. These tools will be adapted from existing tools or developed by SIVAC and will concern all relevant aspects of vaccinology.
• ITAG organization and management tools.
• A digital library. This library will contain documents required for ITAG functioning such as position papers, manuscripts, WHO guidelines, and other materials. An adapted search engine will be used to improve access. If needed some technical documents will be summarized or adapted.
• An ITAG observatory. This will map the status of ITAG activities and recommendations, which will enable SIVAC to present an ongoing picture of ITAGs worldwide.
• Forums and chats.
In addition to the web-based services, sub-regional specific workshops will be held on some specific topics and tools.

Schedule
A comprehensive review of best practises is scheduled to be published by early 2010.
Following a desk review of existing materials (training, tools, and information) that support decision-making processes by national ITAGs, and needs assessment process, the specifications of Technical Resource and Training Centre will be defined during fall 2009.
A global web portal will then be developed. Most of the services will be initiated by the end of Q1-2010, and will be completed gradually over the ensuing year.
Implementation of technical workshops should start by the end of 2010. |
